In what direction should I move in order to get myself back on the track I know is best for me?
Question: At one time I was fervent with my (Zen Buddhist) practice. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Lately, I've become taken over by booze and other such depravities. In what direction should I move in order to get myself back on the track I know is best for me?
Reading: The Empress is saying first and foremost to take care of yourself. Treat yourself gently, and with love, and give yourself the nurturing you need. Take a positive break from the activities that are vexing you, without leaping immediately into your Zen practice. Take a little time to remember and reflect upon all the positive results of your former spiritual discipline. Be compassionate with yourself and don't be afraid to ask assistance from those who care for you. The Empress isn't a judgmental card, but one of healing and growth. Don't push or pull, just listen for a while, then you can gradually - as the King of Pentacles - begin to develop the good habits that you would like to cultivate. You can make slow changes and gradually ground yourself in the practices you want to resume. Everything about your reading suggests gentle, compassionate change. The King of Pentacles likes to burn away the old and rotting growth to make way for the new, but he also realizes new growth takes time and patience. He's a one day at a time kind of guy. But remember that one day at a time can help you develop good habits that can span a lifetime.
