Aces: the Aces are elemental essence. The boiling force ready to burst forth. They are the element of the suit in its purest form, and they are the seed, the spark that begins the Journey. The Aces are raw, but full of potential. They are primal.

Ace of Wands: This is the first impetus toward creativity, the initial spark, the first impulse to create. This Ace offers an opportunity, opens a door. Where the Fool of the Tarot is the beginning of a journey that must be taken, the Ace of Wands is the beginning of a process that can be taken. Its a chance the querent is being given.

This Ace endows the querent with plenty of energy, and a creative urge that may manifest as restlessness, but the energy in this card is without focus - it is waiting to be given direction.

The Ace is an opportunity to develop, to manifest ideas. It can also be seen as pure will, ready to be set into motion.

Reversed, the Ace of Wands is an indication that energy is being wasted, or is not being released or directed. Its building up, working against the querent, stagnating or being blocked. Energy as powerful as the Ace of Wands, when stagnant, can result in sickness or depression. People with intense anxiety can often see this card reversed in their reading, as well as those with writer’s block or other form of creative block.

Ace of Cups: Traditionally, this is the card of new love, a burgeoning relationship, the impetus toward greater emotional fulfillment. This Ace indicates the seed of desire, the initial impetus to unite with some other, whether it be a person, a deity, some concept of higher self. At its most spiritual, its a card of great mystery, the card of Alchemical union. At its most mundane, it indicates a new squeeze - albeit one with great potential for intimacy and love.

The grail imagery indicates a quest, and with this card its often an emotional quest.

Reversed, this card is romantic idealism gone wild. The reversed Ace of Cups is emotion blocked, either by lack of reciprocation, or by irrational infatuation. Reversed, this card can be quite illusory, and the querent might be caught up in a dream or in wishful thinking.

Ace of Swords: This is a card of pure mental energy, the origin of thinking, pure thought. Its a card of great clarity, a cutting through to the truth. This Ace is an indication the querent is being compelled to think clearly, honestly and deeply. This card seeks patterns, explores dreams, and strives to order confusion and bring light to the dim areas of life.

Reversed this card represents the muddled or confused mind. A restless mind with no direction. Lies, secrets, obscurities. A reversed Ace of swords can also mean something is about to be cut away from one’s life that one is unwilling to release.

Ace of Disks: This is a materially abundant card. A card of ‘having it all’. The Ace of Disks give us a good foundation for whatever we want to build. This is the card that starts us on a journey of steady progress. At its most esoteric, it represents an inner stability and growth, the ability to create and manifest one’s vision. At its most mundane, it can mean sudden money with no strings attached.

Reversed, the Ace of Disks means one may be wanting too much, more than one can have. Greed, materialism, selfishness and impatience. But the Ace reversed also means that even though you may not get what you want, it is still possible to learn how to create what you want, slowly and steadily.
